Our Story

Te Xin Kuang a.k.a. Victor Kuang

A simple act on a crowded bus started it all. In the early 1990s, soon after immigrating to the U.S., Victor gave up his seat for an older man named Xu Wei. They spoke, and Victor learned he was dealing with liver trouble. Victor invited him home, where his father - a Chinese herbal practitioner - prepared a traditional formula. Xu Wei recovered well and, moved by the kindness, helped Victor and his father find a storefront and get the clinic set up.

Victor is a graduate of the Academy of Chinese Culture and Health Sciences in Oakland.

That spirit continues today. Victor’s practice is community-first. He volunteers, supports neighborhood programs, and has been a steady presence for Oakland Chinatown for more than three decades. The work is also deeply personal - Victor’s grandfather practiced Chinese herbal medicine, then his father, and now Victor carries the family tradition forward.
